Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education (HPE) is studied as a compulsory subject in Years 7 to 9 for a semester each year. The curriculum focuses on building the foundational areas of Health, Physical Activity and Personal Development.​


Students study a number of units across Years 7 to 9, including the basic concepts of Fitness, Health and Wellness.  Some of the topics students engage in studying are:

  • The dimensions of health and nutrition
  • Personal fitness and the effects of exercise
  • ​Health trends that contribute to healthy decisions 
  • ​Strategy development for decision making to minimise personal risk
  • Human developmental stages related to physical and emotional changes of adolescence 
  • ​Concepts of first aid and injury prevention
  • Principles of fitness and training

 

Students in Health and Physical Education will also participate in various physical activities over the course of their studies.  Physical activities for junior secondary include, however are not limited to:

  • Modified games
  • Bat and ball sports
  • Athletics
  • Touch
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
