Our Guidance Officers provide essential support to students and their parents/carers in a variety of areas to ensure academic, emotional, and social success. Their role is to assist students in navigating challenges, making informed decisions, and connecting them with necessary resources.
Support Services Provided by Guidance Officers
Guidance Officers at SCSHS offer support in the following areas:
Mental health and wellbeing concerns – Helping students manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.
Study skills and time management – Providing strategies to improve organisation, focus, and academic success.
Careers and pathways guidance – Assisting students in making informed decisions about subject selection, tertiary education, and career choices.
AARA (Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments) support – Helping students access accommodations for learning and assessment needs.
Transitions to alternative schooling – Assisting students who may be transitioning to other educational settings or programs.
Physical health and development – Supporting students with concerns that may impact their ability to learn.
Links to external support services – Connecting students and families with community organisations and professional services when needed.
Student Wellness Support
Our Student Wellness Officers provide additional wellbeing support and counselling to students experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns, with a focus on prevention and early intervention. They offer:
One-on-one counselling for students dealing with stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges.
Small group support for students navigating social or mental health issues.
School-wide initiatives promoting resilience, mindfulness, and mental health awareness.
Collaboration with school staff to develop strategies that support students' wellbeing.
Referral and Access to Support
Students can self-refer or be referred by parents, teachers, or school staff. If you or your child require support, please contact the Guidance Officer Team through the school office or speak directly with a teacher or wellbeing staff member.
