At times there may be a need for a student to seek support for their learning due to foreseen or unforeseen circumstances that impact their ability to engage in their educational program. In these circumstances, the school will work with a student and parent/carer to provide appropriate support. Our school supports students in line with policy and procedures from the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) for providing Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) for Disability, Long term health concerns and/or Illness/Misadventure. Additionally, Springfield Central State High School's Senior School Assessment Policy is utilised for supporting staff in making decisions, in some circumstances, for support for students in the Senior School.

Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA)

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) recognises that some students have disability, impairment and/or medical conditions,

or experience other circumstances that may be a barrier to their performance in assessment. Access arrangements and reasonable adjustments (AARA) are designed to assist in Senior School.

AARA minimise barriers for eligible students to demonstrate their learning, knowledge and skill in assessment. Students are required to complete and submit relevant QCAA medical forms as well as the relevant AARA

or illness/misadventure form, which informs our decisions about appropriate adjustments and arrangements for Applied, Applied (Essential), General, General (Extension), Short Course and Senior External Examination (SEE) assessments.

See Here for further specific information.

Application process

Students seeking consideration for AARA or Illness/Misadventure need to complete the AARA Application Form and provide documentation (e.g. a medical certificate) to the Head of Year to help inform a decision.

The AARA Application Form is accessible here

In some instances, the QCAA AARA medical form or change of conditions form is required by the school and the QCAA. Relevant and detailed medical documentation or similar formal documentation, that provides a reasonable explanation about the reason for AARA is required to inform a decision.
