Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education (HPE) is a compulsory subject studied in Years 7 to 9 for one semester each year. The curriculum is designed to build foundational knowledge in Health, Physical Activity, and Personal Development.

​​Core Learning Areas

Students engage in a variety of units that introduce key concepts related to fitness, health, and overall well-being. Topics covered include:

  • The dimensions of health and nutrition

  • Personal fitness and the effects of exercise

  • Health trends that contribute to healthy decision-making

  • Developing strategies to minimise personal risk

  • Human developmental stages and the physical and emotional changes of adolescence

  • Concepts of first aid and injury prevention

  • Principles of fitness and training

These topics help students develop critical thinking skills and health-conscious habits that support lifelong well-being.

​​Physical Activities

Students participate in a range of physical activities designed to develop fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and overall fitness. Activities include but are not limited to:

  • Modified games

  • Bat and ball sports

  • Athletics

  • Touch football

  • Volleyball

  • Basketball

Through these activities, students enhance their physical literacy, coordination, and teamwork abilities, preparing them for an active and healthy lifestyle.
